Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a standby generator and a portable generator?
A portable generator typically keeps one or two things running, like a refrigerator, freezer, or oxygen. It requires being set up and turned on manually during an outage. A standby generator, however, will automatically start approximately 10 seconds after an outage and keep your whole home operational.

Homes and generators alike come in all various shapes and sizes, meaning not everyone has the same needs when it comes to power. Maybe you only need a few select appliances to stay running in the event of an outage, or maybe you need to your entire home functional. Our trained technicians will work with you to determine the best generator size for your home and needs.

Will additional equipment be installed on the outside of my house?
If you get a whole home standby generator, then yes – an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is required. When an outage occurs, the ATS bridges your generator and your electrical panel.
Do I have to upgrade my electrical panel if I get a generator?
Typically, no – if your electric panel is working now, it will work with the generator.
What kind of fuel does a stand by generator use?
Generac generators run on either natural gas or propane.
Is maintenance required for a Generac generator?
Yes, regularly scheduled maintenance is required to maintain your home generator’s factory warranty. Your new home generator is actually a system of equipment that works together to keep the lights on when the grid fails. Much like a car or truck, a properly maintained generator is far less likely to fail when you need it most or require expensive repairs.
We offer two service plans with easy payments to not only maintain your generator but your warranty. Go to our home generator maintenance section for more information about benefits and pricing of our service plans.
